The arts shape the culture in a profound way. If [we] want to have a lasting impact on our society, we need to encourage our children to embrace and engage in the arts.”

One of the things that Jesus told His disciples (in John 17) was that they were to be in the world, but not of the world. If we hope to make a difference in the lives of others, we have to be involved in their lives. That’s one of the reasons that I am actively involved in local, state, and national music teachers associations, and make a point to attend conferences around the country. Not only do I want to learn from those with experience and expertise as educators, I also want to develop friendships and contribute value to their lives. In the same way, students can be ambassadors for Jesus Christ as they participate in the community and take advantage of opportunities God gives them to serve and bless others with their musical excellence and beauty.
