How Do I Get Started in Piano Lessons?

Every man’s work, whether it be literature, or music or pictures or architecture or anything else, is always a portrait of himself.”

~Samuel Butler

Once you’ve explored the studio website and decided that you’d like to take piano lessons at Natalie’s Piano Studio, please fill out the contact form on the website. I maintain a waiting list that can take up to two years for new students, however, schedules and availability are a key factor in filling slots, so it could be considerably less than that, too! Even if there are no open slots, I will happily recommend other teachers in the area.

All new students must schedule an interview and assessment prior to the first lesson. This will give us a chance to get to know each other and discuss your goals. Beginning students will receive some basic musical instruction and a chance to demonstrate their musical aptitude. Transfer students should prepare a couple of pieces to play for me, along with any other musical skills they have developed (a song by ear, an original composition, a set of scales and arpeggios, etc.).

I love working with students of all ages, levels, and abilities – including those with special needs – so please feel free to set up an interview with me regardless of where you are at musically. My mentor and former teacher, Dr. Sylvia Coats, graciously took me in as a student when I was lacking in many areas, and has forever inspired me to accept every student wherever they are at and equip them with the knowledge, techniques, and resources to reach new musical heights.
