Pictures from the Prairie

Last Saturday, Dad, Noelle, Naomi, Joey and I spent the day at Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve. Dad is the President of a Volksmarch club that sponsors a walk out there each year. It's one of my favorite places to go.

Naomi and Dad as they crest the top of the first hill of the 10k walk.

The way the sun was casting shadows on the hills made this picture look almost like a painting!

Looking through the wildflowers into the open hills beyond - the hills are covered with wildflowers this time of year.

A shot as we neared the end of the 10k walk - looking out over a few of the thousands of acres of tallgrass prairie being preserved in this part of Kansas.

Joey and I walked together and enjoyed looking at bugs, taking pictures and talking. The other three ended up finishing way ahead of us...but we had more fun!

What breath-taking photos, Natalie!
I love the pic of you and Joey. He is so sweet. And you are a wonderful sister to him.

Have you ever been to Z-Bar Ranch in the Flint Hills? Your pictures reminded me of it. We went there years ago (over 8 years) but it was amazing. Keep posting other neat pics for us to see!

Breathtaking, Natalie! I've been there and know how beautiful the flint hills with highlighted skies can be. Who says Kansas is all flat?! Each terrain has its own beauty. Besides, the beauty of Kansas, like all states, is found within its Christian community. Your family is one of those supernatural wonders of God. :) I'm so glad He planted your family here in Kansas so we could know and have fellowship together!

Lydia~
That sounds so familiar. It seems like maybe we did go to the Z-Bar Ranch at one point, but I don't remember it. I'm sure it is beautiful too!

Mrs. Hayden~
Actually, it's funny you mentioned about Kansas not being flat, because I also shot a short video clip panning 360 degrees to cover the whole area and as we watched it later we laughed at how the horizon line didn't shift through the whole clip! But that's what I love so much about Kansas - the openness even among the hills, if that makes sense... :-)
I completely agree with you about the Christian community being the true beauty! I often marvel at the amazing people that God has placed here in this area. What a blessing to be surrounded by so many families who love the Lord and are committed to serving Him!
